چکیده

or those patients with moderate-tosevere periodontal disease, tooth mobility can contribute to discomfort when eating and decreased masticatory and occlusal function. Tarnow and Fletcher described the indications and contraindications for splinting periodontally involved teeth.1 They stated that the rationale for splinting teeth should include the severity of periodontal disease as determined by the amount of radiographic bone loss and/or the measured tooth mobility. The literature indicates that the main reasons to reduce tooth mobility with periodontal splinting are (1) primary occlusal trauma, (2) secondary occlusal trauma, and (3) progressive mobility, migration, and pain on function.1 Primary occlusal trauma is defined as injury resulting from excessive occlusal forces applied to a tooth or teeth with normal periodontal support, while secondary occlusal trauma is injury resulting from normal occlusal forces applied to a tooth or teeth with inadequate periodontal support.2 In the past, the splinting of periodontally compromised teeth was contentious. The presumption was that splinting to control tooth mobility was required to control gingival inflammation, periodontitis, and pocket formation. It was assumed that mobility had a direct relationship to attachment loss and formation of vertical osseous defects. Another assumption was that increasing tooth mobility was a direct consequence of traumatic occlusion,

Immediate Replacement of Periodontally Compromised Teeth Using Natural Tooth Pontic

This article reports a case who was treated with immediate replacement of periodontally compromised mandibular incisors using the extracted incisors as a natural tooth pontic. Following extraction and root resection of the mandibular incisors, radicular pulp was cleaned and filled with composite resin and then bonded to adjacent teeth with fiber reinforced composite resin. This is a simple, eco...

Bonded Orthodontic Retainer and Fixed Partial Denture Made with Fiber Reinforced Composite Resin

Retention is the phase of orthodontic treatment which maintains teeth in their orthodontically corrected positions, following the cessation of active orthodontic tooth movement. Development of resin-impregnated, fiber-reinforced composite materials has provided the potential to develop new approaches for stabilizing teeth and replacing teeth conservatively. This case report describes the rehabi...

Direct fiber-reinforced composite restoration in an endodontically-treated molar: a three-year case report.

The reconstruction of structurally compromised non-vital posterior teeth may represent one of the most challenging adhesive-based restorative procedures. Several factors may influence the longevity of direct fiber-reinforced resin composite restorations: endodontic procedures prior to post cementation, dentin and/or post surface treatments, selection of the appropriate post design and architect...

Components of Fiber-reinforced Composite Resins

The clinical success of adhesive composite-resin restorations has changed the way that dentists treatment plan and treat periodontally mobile teeth. While adhesive composite resin provides for strong, durable, and esthetic single-tooth restorations, when placed to join teeth together, these materials—which are chemically brittle by nature—are susceptible to fracture and are not durable. When su...
